Review of The Pastor's DVD (Digital Vitality Disc) Volume 10

The Pastor's DVD (Digital Vitality Disc) series is a very cool, up to date, and helpful resource for the Pastor or leader of the modern congregation. I have a personal collection of all of the volumes and have used the contents of each of them on multiple occaisions. There are award winning videos, Conversation starters, Training videos, and endless other helpful contents to assist the Pastor to lead and feed the modern congregation with updated technology and superior quality. I have emplemented many of the videos into my own personal evangelistic efforts which was very nice and the audience really enjoyed it. A short video adds a bit of pizaz to start of a sermon, it makes a really great opening illustration. Each Volume contains a variety of selections to help with your worship service. I give the whole series my highest approval and am very happy to have them as a resource. Whether I use a simple background for powerpoints off of one of the volumes, or show my youth group a video that really gets their attention, I find that I am always putting the discs to use.

Review of Christian Virtual Hymnal Personal Edition

It matches the hymnal we are using on the Marine Base, The Hymnal for Worship and Celebration. The problem is that it produces a midi file that would be fine for a computer useage but does not work well with the mp3 files that you need to burn a CD and play it.I have not found a decent converter for the midi files to mp3.Don't use MIDI Converter 4.0.There is no support or help nor does it function without it.

Product Description
If your church uses the Celebration Hymnal, the Hymnal for Worship and Celebration, the 1991 Baptist Hymnal, the Lutheran Book of Worship, With One Voice, the 1989 United Methodist Hymnal or the 1990 Presbyterian Hymnal, the Christian Virtual Hymnal is something you need to have. It contains almost all the public domain songs in these collections and will save you many hundreds of hours and provide unprecedented flexibility in creating transposable sheet music with optional chord names/fret diagrams, transposable chord charts and MIDI files for playing. With around 220 public domain selections from the above-listed hymnals are included ready for use. Transpose to any key. Reorder and/or delete any verses. Display SATB, lead sheets or chord charts (verses only - no music - with chord names and fret diagrams). Music and verses are the same as in the respective hymnals so no editing is generally required for congregations using these hymnals. No need to worry about copyrights as all hymns and arrangements are public domain. Use the Christian Virtual Hymnal (either by itself or in conjunction with a sequencing program) in place of an organist. Quickly print out just hymn verses for weekly bulletins or transpose hymns for the choir. This is the "personal" version of the software and as such has fewer hymns.

Review of Early Church Fathers Catholic Edition [CD] (CD-ROM)

. . .to any product that can make the writings of the Church Fathers more readily accessible.

But this edition doesn't get more than three! This is an electronic edition of "The Early Church Fathers" 38 volume set, edited by Philip Schaff, currently in re-print by a number of vendors. It's entitled "Protestant Edition" because it retains the vast number of notes and essays, penned mostly by 19th century Protestant scholars with serious anti-Catholic issues. So it loses one star here. The set loses a second star because it is quite dated. In the last 100 years, better, more scholarly translations have been published -- a fact recognized by Protestant and Catholic scholars alike.

NEVERTHELESS, this is a set well worth acquiring; and the electronic search features make research much less time consuming.

Review of Edersheim, Alfred 4-Pack CD

I have Logos Bible Software & it includes these books from Alfred Edersheim. They are so interesting & informative. They will give you a greater understanding of what took place in Christ's times with the Jewish people, the Law, the Temple & how they lived. You will not be disappointed.

Product Description
The Alfred Edersheim 4-pack comes with the four most popular titles from Alfred Edersheim: The Life and Times of Jesus the Messiah, The Temple: Its Ministry and Services, Sketches of Jewish Social Life, Bible History Old Testament. Alfred Edersheim (1825-89) was a Vienna-born biblical scholar who converted from Judaism to Christianity. A veteran minister and missionary to the Jews of Romania, Edersheim left an enduring and priceless legacy to followers of Christ.

Review of Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament (Metzger) CD

This textual commentary is designed to be used in conjunction with the United Bible Societies' (UBS) Greek New Testament 4th ed. and its greatest utility will be found within that scope of use. Nevertheless, there are uses for others, even non-greek readers; however, the utility will obviously be less as this book was not written with you in mind. The pupose of this commentary is best given through a quote from the book's introduction:

"Most commentaries on the Bible seek to explain the meaning of words, phrases, and ideas of the scriptural text in their nearer and wider context; a textual commentary, however, is concerned with the prior question, What is the original text of the passage? That such a question must be asked - and answered! - before one explains the meaning of the text arises from two circumstances: (a) none of the original documents of the Bible is extant today, and (b) the existing copies differ from one another."

The commentary is basically a verse-by-verse list of the all of the verse's identified by UBS as having variant readings in the Greek texts from which the 4th ed was compiled. Without such a tool we are left to look at the readings which were chosen, perhaps the variants which were provided, and guess why UBS made the decision that was made. Looking at variant readings in both English and Greek texts one has very little indication of what sort of weight which variant carries. So, the commentary is basically a verse-by-verse, variant-by-variant list of variant readings along with the determination made by UBS along with the the following categories regarding the certainty of the reading which has been chosen:
A: The text is certain
B: The text is almost certain
C: The committee had difficulty in deciding which variant reading to place in the text

Each decision is accompanied by a paragraph-form (often many paragraphs) explanation of why the committee's determination was made in the way it was making great use of major texts and transmission lines.

This commentary has proven very useful to me. In my opinion the introduction alone, explaining textual transmission and the issues at hand, is worth the purchase price alone, but once you purchase this commentary and realize its usefulness, it will likely become an oft-referred to member of your library.

I have opted to purchase the Libronix version and have found seamless integration, as expected. Because of its verse-by-verse nature, the Textual Commentary is a no-brainer for Logos publication. If you own Libronix I would highly recommend purchasing it in this format rather than the traditional print version.

The only thing keeping me from offering 5 stars to the book is that the only book with a thorough textual transmission introduction is Acts. This is extremely helpful and deals with issues which are only superficially, ignorantly, or inadequately dealt with in other commentaries. I am very greatful for the work of Metzger and UBS for writing it. However, I think that if an intro were available for the rest of the books, the commentary would be very well rounded. Nevertheless, the Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament accomplishes its stated purposes very well and has proven extremely useful to me.
-Jacob Hantla

Product Description
This work is a companion volume to the fourth edition of the United Bible Societies' Greek New Testament (UBS4), published by the German Bible Society on behalf of the United Bible Societies early in 1993. It will also make a great companion to the upcoming Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible, which contains the critical apparatus of the NA27 Novum Testamentum Graece. - Benjamin Chapman, author of Greek New Testament Insert, says this of Metzger's Textual Commentary: - "One does not have to be a textual critic to benefit from the results of textual criticism. A Textual Commentary on the Greek New Testament, edited by Bruce M. Metzger, provides concise comments and explanations for the choices among variants made by the editorial committee that produced the United Bible Societies' The Greek New Testament. The Textual Commentary is in plain English and requires no technical skills of its readers. Every interpreter should at least open this book to his text and read the few paragraphs there concerning whatever variants may be involved."

Review of Accordance Bible Software - Library 7 Premier

I have two intel-macs both with Accordance installed and have had no problems with installation or running the software, including numerous add-ons, all of which run perfectly. This software is incredible. It all runs together seemlessly and is all interlinked.I bought the Library 7 Premier along with add-ons like the Timeline and Atlas. The Atlas is incredible, you have to see it to believe it.My pastor hasLOGOS and I have compared the two and Accordance wins hands down - faster, more elegant, and the graphics resources are so much better you can hardly compare the two.I could go on and on, but you can download a demo to see for yourself.

Review of Compton's Home Library Collection [CD] (CD-ROM)

These 16 CDs are a great set of reading and math programs separated into levels (1-8 each, reading and math).I used them to supplement my kids' schoolwork during their elementary education days and was very impressed with the programs. The older boy is going to be a junior at a nationally-ranked university in Southern California, and the younger son is definitely heading in that direction. The CDs are all easy to set up and use, although the graphics assume a lower resolution monitor than that currently available.

Review of Laridian iPocketBible Win/Mac

I bought this item because I have been trying to read the whole Bible, but I have a terrible attention span, so no matter what I am reading, it's really hard for me to focus. I enjoyed my time reading the Bible, but I still wasn't able to get the whole picture because I was so easily distracted. This reading of the Bible is one of the best readings I have heard. With it, I can just listen or follow along in my Bible, and it is really great because through this reading, I feel like these are no longer just words on a page, but what they were intended to be. I feel like the words are alive and suddenly these stories I have heard a hundred times are so much more alive and interesting. I would highly recommend this product!

Review of Pathway Through Jerusalem -2 CD Set

Pathways Through Jerusalem is considered by many to be the finest religious multimedia title ever produced. Made in Israel, Pathways is an interactive giant of a program on 2 CDs. Five historical guides (King David, King Herod, Queen Helena, Dirk the Crusader and Suleiman) take you through 5 different historical periods in Jerusalem. Each tour offers a multitude of animation, video, and interactive elements to explore certain locations and concepts more in-depth. The four contemporary guides show you Jerusalem today from their unique perspectives (Jewish Jerusalem today, Christian Jerusalem, Muslim Jerusalem, and Secular Jerusalem). Each guide appears as a video against Jerusalem locations and illustrations. The "historical" guides are professionally acted and humorously portrayed. King David's tour is the highlight and tells the story of Jerusalem's founding, and includes an animated tour of Solomon's Temple.

Scholarly without being dull. Humorous without being irreverant. Can be used for personal study, by touring groups, and for adult education.

Product Description
Pathways Through Jerusalem's 2 CD Set is a multi-media tour de force recognized by many as the finest religious software ever produced. Review of Learn Hebrew Now!

When I first got this I was a bit disappointed. For the price, the graphics are really dreadful and I found it very hard to get started. The program is based on the "immersion environment", however, the immersion is so complete that even though I've completed both comprehensive Pimsleur Hebrew courses, I found myself completely bewildered. The dialogue is complicated and extremely fast. There is a "slow" mode which I do not find particularly helpful since the tracks have been digitally slowed. To me, this just distorts the pronunciation of the words and, if anything, makes it harder to understand.

Having said all of that, after playing with the program off and on while continuing to use other products as my main method of study, I have found some features of this program that I really like. For example the "Before You Know It" flashcard section is great! The flashcards can be shown to you in a number of different ways: pictures, English words, Hebrew words, etc., so that you can test your translation into Hebrew and also back to English. This is a really easy way to boost your vocabulary.(Although, I understand that you can get at least some BYKY products online for free and the selection included with this program is very limited).

Another thing I like about the program is that it really helps with reading Hebrew. One aspect of the immersion environment consists of dialogues that will play the Hebrew audio while you follow along with the text on the screen. You can also set the window to show translations on the bottom (sort of like subtitles).Or you can turn off the English translations to test your reading/comprehension; if you get stuck on a word, just click on the one word or phrase and the translation will pop up.

The games are fun if you enjoy cross-words, fill-in the blanks, etc., but don't expect any cute or exciting graphics. The games are probably more effective at drilling spelling than anything else, so if your primary goal is to speak the language, you may not find the games very useful.

Overall, I will continue to use the program, but I definitely would not recommend this to someone just getting started.I think that if you had no previous experience with Hebrew you would be utterly frustrated.BUT if you want to sharpen up your reading skills and get used to hearing Hebrew spoken at a more normal pace, this would be a good addition to your Hebrew learning library.

Product Description

Review of PC Study Bible 4 Complete Reference Library

I HAVE REVISED THIS REVIEW IN LIGHT OF THE RESPONSE (SEE ABOVE) FROM KIRT WILLIS, AN EMPLOYEE OF THE PUBLISHER
(...)
I have been a user of PC Study Bible since version 2 in 1998. the new interface in v4 alleviates most of the problems from previous versions which showed their DOS/early Windows roots. The incremental releases, up to the current v4.3 have also added some additional functionality that is much appreciated.

In addition, my experience with Biblesoft's customer support has been extremely positive. They are prompt to answer and always answer thoroughly.

What bothers me is that when I bought my original version back in '98 I was pretty green with knowledge of various Bible study tools (commentaries, lexicons, etc). I have since discovered that over half of the resources that Biblesoft included in this "Complete Reference Library" set are public domain and can be found for free on the web or in other programs. Even the "Bonus CD" has a large percentage of public domain resources.

I still own PCSB and use it when needed. However, I have discovered e-Sword, a free Bible study program with many free resources available for it, many of which you would have to pay for with PCSB. While perhaps not as flexible, it has suited my studies just fine. Plus, there is a very active online community of e-Sword users (primarily on Yahoo Groups) that have made many other resources available for free as well offering help when needed. There are also some free, third party tools available for creating your own resources in e-Sword, similar to the "Authoring System" in PCSB.

Biblesoft, like most commercial bible study software publishers, seems to be built on a business model of selling you their base "package" products and then charging extra for add-ons, which are the things you really want. But it has been my experience that other companies such as Logos and WordSearch include fewer public domain resources in their base package offerings than Biblesoft does. Why pay over $250 for mostly public domain materials?

PCSB is great as a general study tool and the authoring system is nice (though not as good as the one in Bible Explorer.) While PC Study Bible does offer some things that you can't get for free (online or with e-Sword, etc.) there are other commercially available products that I think are better and more powerful, especially if you are planning to get into original language studies. I'd personally recommend the Logos Bible Study Software as a good choice.

Review of QuickVerse 2005 Deluxe Edition

One look at the included titles is pretty impressive, but the program itself is hard to use and poorly designed. I have used many different bible study programs including e-Sword, Bibleworks 6, Logos, WordSearch, Online Bible, SwordSearcher and others. Quickverse 2005 is worse than all of these in terms of it's useability.

It's not so much that it is hard to use, but just is annoying to get around and the features are poorly implimented. One example would be the popup verse refrences. When you put your mouse over a verse refrence while reading a verse, a new window pops up with the verse. The problem is that it has this annoying thick border around it as compared to a tooltip style used by most other programs. Once this thing pops up it is hard to get rid of it! There is no way of closing it except to move your mouse to another refrence (popping up a new refrence) and quickly away to a sectionof the text with no refrence. Many times I have switched active windows to another program only to have this annoying popup in the way, which forces me to return to Quickverse to get rid of it.

There are other examples, but the point is that either this program is in an early stage of development, which shouldn't be the case at version 9, or the developers are not very skilled at writing user friendly software. They make it look good in an advertisment, but it's disappointing to say the least.

Having used all major Bible software programs out there, I would suggest that if you want a comprehensive suite and you can spend hundreds of dollars, buy LOGOS. You can find the Scholars edition for around $400 discounted on the net.

If Quickverse offers some resources you must have and you can't afford LOGOS, then be sure to look around for a deal. I have seen Quickverse 2005 Deluxe selling new for $125.00 plus shipping (which says a lot since the "retail" is $299.00).

You would do even better to just download e-sword, which is free and offers a much better set of tools than Quickverse and has a large number of free Bibles, commentaries and other resources available. It's more than what most people need and you can send the money you saved to support a missionary!

It is a rudimentary encyclopedia. All the rest that Amazon says is there ISN'T.No thesaurus etc. I got had ordering it from the used section. Can't blame the seller -- Amazon wrote the description.Amazon didn't care and the seller offered a credit but that didn't work. So, thanks Amazon for the lousy support on this issue. You just lost a star.

Review of Quickverse 8.0 Standard

(Why don't they offer zero stars?)
I purchased and installed the product (several times, again with patches), when it is opened it will display no verses. After multiple attempts all I recieved from tech support is 'we have problems with XP, this patch is supposed to fix it'(same answer to both responses of 5 requested). It did not on mine. I cannot get any more response from tech support, but rest assured I am on the mailing advertisement list. I responded with my problem to the e-mail.One week later I received something from quickverse. Another 'anonymous' buy our product.

Review of The Bible Tutor

This item did not work well on my laptop computer. It ran slowly.I think this is because the item is out-dated.It is compatible with OS up to Windows NT.Besides being out-dated, it is totally not user friendly. It took me quite a while to figure out how to get to a concordance and then I still couldn't find the scripture that I was looking for.I am definitely not satisfied with this product. It's next destination is most likely the trash.

Review of Encyclopedia Britannica Profiles: World Religions (Jewel Case)

This software is, in a nutshell, mediocre. It seems that not much thought was put into the program.I mean, come on...at least have full screen multimedia video clips..not cheesy little scenes that you could view on your cell phone screen.

All in all, I'm definitely not impressed...as far as content, what I read so far seemed fine, it's just that the design and layout of the interface was very poorly configured.

Review of Quickverse Bible Pda Edition For Pocketpc & Palm Os

The Gold Box version of QuickVerse Mac offers pretty much every Bible translation that anyone could want (except the NIV, which is available separately). In addition to those offered in the Black Box version, the New American Standard Bible, Revised Standard Version, and Living Bible are probably the most popular translations added.

The other books and reference materials are excellent, and would be great for any pastor or Sunday School teacher who might need some inspiration for sermons or studies. They also should prove valuable for personal study and growth.

However, there are some technical problems with this version at the time of this writing. First, some of the Bible versions don't play well with the others. The NASB, for example, cannot be viewed in parallel with other versions. Also, searching for the occurance of certain words in some Bible versions fails to list some. For example, searching for the word "confess" does not show that it occurs in James 5:16. Searching for "looking" and "Jesus" should return at least 8 instances, but only reveals 2. "Looking to Jesus" reveals none in a search of the ESV, even though Heb. 12:12 has that exact phrase!

Such bugs occur in at least five Bible translations, perhaps more.

Assuming that these bugs are fixed, this will be awesome software. Until they are, this software is of use only if you want to read a vast library. It is of little use for study or sermon preparation.

Review of Early Church Fathers Protestant Edition [CD] (CD-ROM)

. . .to any product that can make the writings of the Church Fathers more readily accessible.

Review of Old Testament New Testament Exegesis Books (Stuart & Fee) CD

I think that the best way to describe the purpose of the book is to steal the first paragraph from the author's preface to the first edition: "A former New Testament colleague was once asked by a student how he could learn to do exegesis, intending that his teacher should suggest a book. My colleague answered, 'You will just have to take a course.' That answer is the tacit admission of what all of us who teach NT know to be true: There simply is no book that serves either as a textbook or a guide for students to learn the exegetical process, from the opening of their Bibles to the writing of the paper. This book hopes to fill that lacuna."

This book's target audience is an academic one whose end to exegesis will be a paper (or an expository sermon), but as a layman I have found it to be extremely helpful, even indispensable, in my exegetical endeavors to better learn and therefore accurately apply the Word of God. Also, the book is written primarily for those who know Greek (I do not know enough to even be dangerous); however, in the new edition Fee has made the attempt to provide alternative exercises (such as compare many different versions and maybe use a textual commentary to try to determine as close as possible the original) for the English only student.

CHAPTER 1: Guide for Full Exegesis
Chapter 1 basically organized in outline form, providing first the "initial steps for all genres," first naming the major exegetical step that must be performed and then providing more and more detailed information and guidance on each step. Then moving past the steps that are the same for all genres, Fee gives the steps necessary for various genres (i.e. Epistles, Gospels, Revelation, etc). Finally the chapter ends with a section on moving from interpretation to application.

CHAPTER 2: Exegesis and the Original Text
Also arranged in outline format with the following sections (1) Structural Analysis, (2) Establishing the Text, (3) Analysis of Grammer, (4) Analysis of Words, (5) Historical-Cultural Background, and (6) Analysis of Pericope. Just as in the other chapters, the outline works from very general headings and general paragraphs of information to very specific and technical subheadings.

CHAPTER 3: Short Guide for Sermon Exegesis
I find myself often in Chatper 3 as I study as Fee uses this chapter to show how good, solid exegesis will move into the most powerful, Word-filled sermons. If you teach from the Word (as a pastor, small group leader, youth group leader, whatever) I recommend this book and this chapter in addition to Rediscovering Expository Preaching by MacArthur et al.

CHAPTER 4: AIDS & RESOURCES FOR THE STEPS IN EXEGESIS
Fees ends in referring the student to othe very useful resources organized by type.

I would be amiss if I did not address the one downside to this book which I believe is the temptation to "do the steps" and skip the prayer, the heartsearching, the repentance, the awe, the worship. An unregenerate person can "do the steps" and if done responsibly come up with an exegetical position, maybe even a correct one. We cannot know God through human wisdom (1 Cor 1:21). Fee mentions this temptation, but it is by no means the focus of the book, nor should it be. The temptation to be purely academic in Bible study is a great one, and a "how to" book on the subject could propagate this error in some. However the book should not be condemned simply because the method of presentation (which is a highly effective one) could be taken by the cold hearts of some to their folly. Rather, understand the evil of your own heart which is always beside you (Romans 7:21), crucify your flesh, repent where necessary, and seek the truth of God which is found in the Bible with a disciplined, passionate fervor. It is in this final endeavor that "New Testament Exegesis" is invaluable.

Finally, if you use Libronix Digital Library System, I would STRONGLY recommend you go ahead and buy this along with Stuart's Old Testament Exegesis book for Logos. If not you will find yourself with a dog-eared and bookmarked book as you flip back and forth as Fee makes extensive use of referencing other portions of his text.

Product Description
These two books have been standards texts for exegesis classes around the world for more than twenty years. Each serves as a step-by-step guide to the process of exegesis, and both feature annotated bibliographies for the entire process. New Testament Exegesis provides detailed introductions to standard reference works and instructions on how to use (and get the most out of) things like the critical apparatus, the BDAG lexicon, and other texts. - These books have influenced the design of Logos Bible Software, and many of the texts referenced in these works are already available in Libronix DLS format for use with it; others will be available in the future.

Review of QuickVerse 2005 Standard Edition

I purchased this product a few years ago, and it wasn't what I expected.I was hoping for an integrated system of biblical notes whereby I could click on a word in a scripture verse and find a well layered body of information.Such information would included the Greek/Hebrew meaning(s), other locations for this word, and what it likely means in this context.I have a fried with an older version of Quick Verse that is much better in this regard. His version was sold by a different company, and the content is much better. My version is a useful too, but NOT an electronically integrated tool for bible study. It's simply a CD filled with many disconnected pieces of good information. It certainly has some value, but failed to meet expectations.

Review of Quickverse Expanded 7.0

The last reviewer mentioned a lot of CD swapping. This is untrue if you load all the CD's locally to your hard drive just by selecting an option off your file menu. It's simple to do and there are directions in the help menu if you have any trouble. The only downer is it takes up hard disk space, but not too much as long as it doesn't have a lot of graphics since usually it's only text that loads into a database.Overall, I have been happy with this product, but I have had an unfortunate experience trying to subscribe to their online libraries and ordering a the Scofield NIV unlock key.Their online ordering through the software does not work for me and their 1-800 # is always busy.I would give this a five star rating, if it weren't for those two things.Otherwise being able to compare translations, open commentaries and references to the exact verse your reading with a click of a button is a priceless time saver.

Review of Treasures of the Bible 3 CD-ROM Set (Jewel Case)

I have owned this software for over a year, the Home Christian Library Delux has earned a rating equal with some of the [other] ones that I own such as Bible Explorer 3, QuickVerse 6 Expanded, and Nelsons Electronic Bible Reference Library. I open this software as much if not more as any of them because of it's vast amount of Biblical study resources. If you dont mind using Adobe's Acrobat reader, this is Great software no matter what the price! The Logos Home Bible Software is a 3 star Bible Software and is worth using, it is the same software used by The Thomas Nelson Bible Study Publishers and is almost unlimited in it's expandability. In short, it is good, and easy to use. The Bible Stumpers is great for the whole family, sit down with the kids and prepare for a great time testing YOUR Biblical knowledge and have lots of fun doing it! And last but not least, if you like to make bulletines or flyers or etc., then you will find the Color Christian Clipart to be a valuble resource. This software bundle is worth it's weight in Heavenly Gold !! Buy it! is my recommendation.

Review of Scholar's Collection 6 Core Bundle

For biblical scholars and students who are Mac users, there is no need to look further than than the constantly evolving and resolutely powerful Accordance Bible Software from OakTree software.

I have used this product since its inception. It continues to move from strength to strength, providing simple and complex search resources for biblical texts in Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek; Second Temple Judaism and post-biblical Jewish texts (including Mishna, Qumran, and the Targums) in Aramaic and Hebrew, and a host of other Bibles and classical sources. Many or most of these are grammatically tagged.

You can also add on modules like the classic Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew-Aramaic lexicon (the famous 'BDB') and the fabulous Koehler-Baumgartner dictionary. I have not even kept up with OakTree Software's recent forays into Bible Atlases and Photo Guides, but I've seen enough to know that I'll be impressed when I do.

As a value added, the good folks at OakTree put on workshops for users, where oohs and ahs are to be heard emanating from users like me who suddenly realize that Accordance can even do *that*!

Perhaps most remarkably of all, OakTree staff actually answer phone calls and emails, promptly, helpfully, and without making you feel like a techno-maggot.

Product Description
Whether you're a pastor, student, translator, or Bible scholar, the Accordance Scholar's Collection gives you everything you need to explore the original Greek and Hebrew texts. Most of the Greek and Hebrew texts available on this CD-ROM are "tagged" with information about the dictionary form of each word, as well as its grammatical analysis. This enables you to examine the original languages of Scripture with unprecedented power and ease. Position your cursor over any word to see its lexical form and parsing. Triple-click to look it up in your favorite lexicon. Search by lexical form to find every inflected form of a word. Access statistical information about how many times a particular grammatical form is used. You can even construct complex grammatical searches using an intuitive drag-and-drop interface! The Core Bundle includes the Scholar's Collection 6.1 and Bible Unlock CD-ROMs with Accordance 6.1.2, KJV and Apocrypha, ASV, six Parallel databases, Greek New Testament NA27, BHS with Westminster Hebrew Morphology, Louw & Nida Semantic Domain Lexicon, Thayer's Greek Lexicon, Brown-Driver-Briggs Abridged Hebrew Lexicon, and your choice of one $30 Bible. Additional grammatically tagged modules available for unlocking on this CD-ROM include the Greek Septuagint, Mishna, Qumran Manuscripts, Targums, Apostolic Fathers, Inscriptions, and Pseudepigrapha. Other add-on modules include Greek and Hebrew lexicons, grammars, and unique scholarly tools.

Review of Treasures of the Bible II: The Christian Resource Center

I bought this CD set several years ago.I am a church organist and I have found the Virtual Hymnal CD to be incredibly useful.I have used it to transpose hymns down (seldom up) to a key the congregation can sing more comfortably.I have also used it to just provide words of a hymn or to allow me to modulate up for a last stanza.I have even used it to print the words and melody of a hymn in a bulletin or a handout. You could even print on transparencies if you use an overhead projector. All the hymns are public domain and you must work within the program's limitations but if you are even a little comfortable with computer software, you will find this a useful program, worth buying all 4 disks to get one.

Review of Wisdom of the Bible

I was looking for software to install on my laptop to lighten my load while taking classes and provide more power in researching and studying. My laptop has an external CD drive, and the software could not be effectively installed on the hard drive despite various attempts. When it was working, the interface was primitive and the selection of Bibles very limited - it has quite a few versions, but few that are regularly used. NIV was even missing. Personally, I would not download a free version of this software, and would definitely not purchase it.

Review of PC Study Bible Reference Library Plus 3.0

Frankly, I've been somewhat disappointed with this software.Lots of translations for the money, and Barnes' Notes are excellent, but there are lots of flaws and annoyances. Most notable is what appears to be a memory leak: system resources are constantly low even after opening only 3-4 screens (this on a 1Ghz PIII w/256M RAM and 30G free disk).Another example is that you cannot do a FIND within a window. The Henry commentary is somewhat difficult to search as you look for commentary on a specific verse. You get the idea. The contents are there, but the execution, the "glue," isn't all that great.

Review of J. Vernon McGee Bible

I bought this collection a few years back as soon as it was released. It is a comprehensive collection to all of the writings of Dr. J. Vernon McGee, of "Thru the Bible", a 5-year Bible study radio program. The entire 5-volume Thru The Bible commentary is available, as well as the books that he has published throughout the years, featuring collections of his sermons.I especially like his "Real Characters" and "More Real Characters" of the Bible series where he examines the life and lessons of people in the Bible (some examples, Jacob, Samson, Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Simon Peter, among others). There are also included the KJV and NKJV Bibles, as well as some recommended reference works, such as Bible dictionaries, maps, charts and word studies. This CD album follows the Logos Library software, and if you have other Logos collections, it merges everything into the system, with links, search features, and cross-references.Outstanding value for your money.Works only on Windows systems (2000, XP, 95/98, 3.1).I cannot recommend this more strongly if you're a fan of Dr. McGee.You can listen to him in most radio stations as well as on the Internet.

Review of Zondervan International Bible Deluxe

I began to be suspicious that I didn't get what was promised in the advertising hype and what I thought I was ordering when I took the CD out, which was titled:"Compton's Interactive Bible."I loaded it onmy computer and the disappointment was immense. It takes 10 MB of space onyour HD and you still have to have the CD to open the program.Aspromised, the product is easy to use, but it is not versatile. And thepromise of "powerful, search capabilities" is false. It doeshave a concordance, but you cannot limit your search to either the OT or NTor a section of the OT or NT or a Bible book or chapter.Nor can yousearch for a phrase. And the pictures of Bible times and the life ofChrist are from the Middle Ages and are very European -- clothing, people, and background, not attempts to accurately depict the 1st century or thecultural setting of the Bible itself. My overall impression with theproduct is that it is as cheap as the very inexpensive paperback NewTestament that was also included.YES, Amazon.Com did a wonderful jobdelivering this product quickly and in excellent shape. The product camein a beautiful box.I couldn't be happier with Amazon.Com, but thisproduct is a loser. It will take a long time to recoup my investment, butI hope to eventually do that with instant verse finder and a few of theless needed and less important features such as the NIV Study Bible Notes.

Review of Bible Study Library CD-ROM - Logos Bible Software 3

I have been using the software for about a week and am still discovering cool things it does. The Logos site has a number of instructional videos that will go a long way in getting you started with the software. An instructional DVD was included with the software and I found it quite useful in learning the program.I am running the program on a 4 year old Dell. The program installed without a hitch.Although the program is somewhat slow to load (at startup) it functions quite fast when moving between resources. It can be customized easily to function at the level and interest of the user. The programmers did their homework in anticipating the end users needs. Thus far, it has exceeded my expectations in content and ease of use.Logos makes several levels of the program to meet the needs of everyone from the novice user to serious students of the Bible.I looked at each one so that I could buy what I needed without giving up resources or over-buying.The Logos site provides a nice comparison chart to help with the decision. Adding resources later is much more expensive than purchasing the program level you need initially.

Review of ClickArt Christian Graphics Deluxe

I use Christian Graphics Deluxe program to bring our Powerpoint presentation of Worship Songs to life on Sundays. The words of the song seem to mean more when you have a visual picture/background.When you aresinging a song that states "flow river flow" and you literallyhave a river flowing as a background brings the words to life.We havereceived a great response from our congregation and in fact have had otherchurch worship leaders ask what we use.I highly recommend this productfor your use.

Review of PC Study Bible Version 4 Reference Library Plus

Since 1991 I have invested over $500 in PC Study Bible software, including upgrades.
In the fall of 08 I ordered Preaching and Teaching from the Old Testament, as advertised in Biblesoft News, Vol 11, No 6. It included Version 5 Program-ONLY UPGRADE. To say I am VERY DISAPPOINTED is a gross understatement. The way Word Study was implemented in the old DOS version was what made Bible Soft a great program. Unfortunately through one of the upgrades I have lost this feature. To their credit, they do honor their unconditional money back guarantee. (The last upgrade only)

PC Study Bible has some neat features (maps, pictures etc.) that are nice to have but that I rarely use. Overall, comparatively, it is very expensive, very slow and very cumbersome. For serious study I now use Power Bible CD 5.4 (on both my computers, one is a new laptop) and PC Study Bible, DOS Version 3.1 Word Study Series (1993 edition) on my Windows 98 desktop machine. By the way, Study Bible 3.1 runs very quickly in a DOS window on my Windows 98 desktop.

Power Bible CD is greased lightening compared to PC Study Bible. As a comparison, PCSB takes 2 minutes, 17 seconds just to launch the application. Power Bible CD launches in 11 seconds. This is on the same computer. I would say that is a fair comparison on how fast they do just about anything, even something as simple as closing a window. For $19.00 you can buy one licensed copy of Power Bible CD and get one free, one of which you are encouraged to give to a friend (http://www.powerbible.com/). Features are comparable to BibleSoft except for (Vines) Greek Hebrew Word Study, pictures and maps. It does include Strongs dictionary, along with numerous other dictionaries, commentaries and many versions of the Bible. Check out the website.
