Review of PC Study Bible Reference Library Plus 3.0

Frankly, I've been somewhat disappointed with this software.Lots of translations for the money, and Barnes' Notes are excellent, but there are lots of flaws and annoyances.Most notable is what appears to be a memory leak: system resources are constantly low even after opening only 3-4 screens (this on a 1Ghz PIII w/256M RAM and 30G free disk).Another example is that you cannot do a FIND within a window.The Henry commentary is somewhat difficult to search as you look for commentary on a specific verse.You get the idea. The contents are there, but the execution, the "glue," isn't all that great.

Review of J. Vernon McGee Bible

I bought this collection a few years back as soon as it was released.It is a comprehensive collection to all of the writings of Dr. J. Vernon McGee, of "Thru the Bible", a 5-year Bible study radio program.The entire 5-volume Thru The Bible commentary is available, as well as the books that he has published throughout the years, featuring collections of his sermons.I especially like his "Real Characters" and "More Real Characters" of the Bible series where he examines the life and lessons of people in the Bible (some examples, Jacob, Samson, Jochebed, the mother of Moses, Simon Peter, among others).There are also included the KJV and NKJV Bibles, as well as some recommended reference works, such as Bible dictionaries, maps, charts and word studies.This CD album follows the Logos Library software, and if you have other Logos collections, it merges everything into the system, with links, search features, and cross-references.Outstanding value for your money.Works only on Windows systems (2000, XP, 95/98, 3.1).I cannot recommend this more strongly if you're a fan of Dr. McGee.You can listen to him in most radio stations as well as on the Internet.

I began to be suspicious that I didn't get what was promised in the advertising hype and what I thought I was ordering when I took the CD out, which was titled:"Compton's Interactive Bible."I loaded it onmy computer and the disappointment was immense.It takes 10 MB of space onyour HD and you still have to have the CD to open the program.Aspromised, the product is easy to use, but it is not versatile.And thepromise of "powerful, search capabilities" is false.It doeshave a concordance, but you cannot limit your search to either the OT or NTor a section of the OT or NT or a Bible book or chapter.Nor can yousearch for a phrase.And the pictures of Bible times and the life ofChrist are from the Middle Ages and are very European -- clothing, people,and background, not attempts to accurately depict the 1st century or thecultural setting of the Bible itself.My overall impression with theproduct is that it is as cheap as the very inexpensive paperback NewTestament that was also included.YES, Amazon.Com did a wonderful jobdelivering this product quickly and in excellent shape.The product camein a beautiful box.I couldn't be happier with Amazon.Com, but thisproduct is a loser.It will take a long time to recoup my investment, butI hope to eventually do that with instant verse finder and a few of theless needed and less important features such as the NIV Study Bible Notes.

Review of QuickVerse 2005 Edition [Deluxe]

GMS Softwares "Bible with You" software is much better than Quickverse PDA edition. I had problems with the installation of the Quickverse software and the tech support at Quickverse wasn't very good. The Quickverse software is dog slow also. GMS's PDA software is lightning fast when switching between applications. It's a much better product.

Review of Bible Study Library CD-ROM - Logos Bible Software 3

I have been using the software for about a week and am still discovering cool things it does.The Logos site has a number of instructional videos that will go a long way in getting you started with the software.An instructional DVD was included with the software and I found it quite useful in learning the program.I am running the program on a 4 year old Dell.The program installed without a hitch.Although the program is somewhat slow to load (at startup) it functions quite fast when moving between resources.It can be customized easily to function at the level and interest of the user.The programmers did their homework in anticipating the end users needs.Thus far, it has exceeded my expectations in content and ease of use.Logos makes several levels of the program to meet the needs of everyone from the novice user to serious students of the Bible.I looked at each one so that I could buy what I needed without giving up resources or over-buying.The Logos site provides a nice comparison chart to help with the decision. Adding resources later is much more expensive than purchasing the program level you need initially.

I use Christian Graphics Deluxe program to bring our Powerpoint presentation of Worship Songs to life on Sundays.The words of the song seem to mean more when you have a visual picture/background.When you aresinging a song that states "flow river flow" and you literallyhave a river flowing as a background brings the words to life.We havereceived a great response from our congregation and in fact have had otherchurch worship leaders ask what we use.I highly recommend this productfor your use.

Review of PC Study Bible Version 4 Reference Library Plus

Since 1991 I have invested over $500 in PC Study Bible software, including upgrades.
In the fall of 08 I ordered Preaching and Teaching from the Old Testament, as advertised in Biblesoft News, Vol 11, No 6. It included Version 5 Program-ONLY UPGRADE. To say I am VERY DISAPPOINTED is a gross understatement. The way Word Study was implemented in the old DOS version was what made Bible Soft a great program. Unfortunately through one of the upgrades I have lost this feature. To their credit, they do honor their unconditional money back guarantee. (The last upgrade only)

PC Study Bible has some neat features (maps, pictures etc.) that are nice to have but that I rarely use. Overall, comparatively, it is very expensive, very slow and very cumbersome. For serious study I now use Power Bible CD 5.4 (on both my computers, one is a new laptop) and PC Study Bible, DOS Version 3.1 Word Study Series (1993 edition) on my Windows 98 desktop machine. By the way, Study Bible 3.1 runs very quickly in a DOS window on my Windows 98 desktop.

Power Bible CD is greased lightening compared to PC Study Bible. As a comparison, PCSB takes 2 minutes, 17 seconds just to launch the application. Power Bible CD launches in 11 seconds. This is on the same computer. I would say that is a fair comparison on how fast they do just about anything, even something as simple as closing a window. For $19.00 you can buy one licensed copy of Power Bible CD and get one free, one of which you are encouraged to give to a friend (http://www.powerbible.com/). Features are comparable to BibleSoft except for (Vines) Greek Hebrew Word Study, pictures and maps. It does include Strongs dictionary, along with numerous other dictionaries, commentaries and many versions of the Bible. Check out the website.

I bought this software to enable me to research certain areas of the Bible more effectively.I couldn't have purchased a better product.It runs quickly and easily.Ideasoft Complete Bible Suite is an intutive program so you don't have to keep running to some manual to figure out how to use it.The software makes it simple to get to the features and there are plenty of them.The user has access to three commentaries and three translations so there is no lack of information to help with Biblical understanding.

And it doesn't lock up my computer or otherwise cause crashes.

I think this is a wonderful tool and advise anyone who wants a good, but basic, Bible research tool to obtain this software.

Review of Religious Clipart Vol 2 (Jewel Case)

Like the earlier version, this CD has a good collection of images in both BMP and JPG format. Most of them are in color and the quality ranges from fair to quite good.

The CD is called "Religious" and that is a fair description. Most of the images are Christian but there are a few from other faiths as well. Some are so generic as to have no religious connotation at all but even those might be useful on occasion.

The CD is divided into several categories (people, events, crosses, animals, etc) which can make it easier to find what you are looking for. Be advised, however, that the person organizing the folders on the CD did not always know what he or she was looking at. I found a monstrance in the cross folder and lots of crosses scattered throughout other folders.

All in all, I am well satisfied.

I have owned The Book on CD Rom for a couple of years now, and think it is truly awesome.There are many study helps on it, and also a journal, for personal use.There are beautiful photos of places in the Bible and also a daily One Year Bible guide, where if followed, by the end of a year you will have read the entire Bible.I very highly recommend it, for new Christians, and for those of us who have been in God's Word for years.God Bless Everyone!! Review of HCSB Bible Navigator

This software was delivered without any problems, and installed easily on my hard drive. What I didn't like about this product was there were only about five texts which were free and the rest you had to buy. Wait a dog gone minute! I thought I bought the CD which wasn't necessarily inexpensive. Not exactly. In essence, the CD was just a vehicle to sell more Bilical text. Yes, the five or so texts which came with the software were helpful and complete, but I thought I was getting a lot more. You do get a 30 day preview of 30 or so other texts which are really great; however, after the 30 days they disappear and you have to pay a ransom fee to get them back.I don't like that.However, I did find their Discussion Group data base very helpful.Through it, you can connect with theologians, Bible Scholars, ministers, and lay Christians around the country and maybe even the world. I registered for the groups and found them to be an invaluable source of information and help. For that reason alone I'm giving this product three stars.

CD full of corrupted files.Could not reinstall after my computer crashed.Cannot be purchased from Amazon directly, so it must be purchased through an independent vendor, who has to mark up the price on a new CD.

This dictionary is over-rated and not worth the money.Yes the format of the 3rd Edition is an improvement, since in early editions it was hard to mine through all the data to get to the point.Bauer is still too wordy, and for the price of this book you can get a Thayer, and LSJ Middle, and a Greek concordance to the NT.

Review of Bible Library Ultra Edition (Jewel Case)

I have a lot of Bible and related software, I mean a lot! I am very studied and am a computer nut, so I am in a good position to review this software.

I bought it, because it was the least expensive source I could find for for certain documents in it, but I the interface is not natural or friendly, hardly a joy to use. If this was my only software, it might be o.k. as I would have spent enough hours on it to be used to how it operates, and memorizes commands and procedures.

If you have no need to be efficient, this might beo.k., but it would not be my first choice, by any means. I have 5 Bible suites, and in my experience, you get what you pay for. I did not pay much for this.

Christian Card Studio is truly this desktop publisher's delight. Creating and designing bulletins, programs and flyers for my church is one of my pastime hobbies.This program has enabled me to create some dynamic masterpieces. For Mother's Day, I was asked to design a Mother's Day Memory Journal and I had just purchase a copy of Christian Card Studio software. I exceeded my own expectations.The output was truly awork of art.I have received numerous request to create similar work. I had previously used several other Desktop Publishing software, but this software far exceed any of my existing software.Christian Card studio allows me to use existing verbiage and or add my own personal touch to pre-existing phrases.The artwork is absolutely outstanding.The ability to create a personal touch gives all of my artwork a more professional touch. Review of Quickverse Bible Study White Box Edition (Mac)

The Gold Box version of QuickVerse Mac offers pretty much every Bible translation that anyone could want (except the NIV, which is available separately). In addition to those offered in the Black Box version, the New American Standard Bible, Revised Standard Version, and Living Bible are probably the most popular translations added.

The other books and reference materials are excellent, and would be great for any pastor or Sunday School teacher who might need some inspiration for sermons or studies. They also should prove valuable for personal study and growth.

However, there are some technical problems with this version at the time of this writing. First, some of the Bible versions don't play well with the others. The NASB, for example,cannot be viewed in parallel with other versions. Also, searching for the occurance of certain words in some Bible versions fails to list some. For example, searching for the word "confess" does not show that it occurs in James 5:16. Searching for "looking" and "Jesus" should return at least 8 instances, but only reveals 2. "Looking to Jesus" reveals none in a search of the ESV, even though Heb. 12:12 has that exact phrase!

Such bugs occur in at least five Bible translations, perhaps more.

Assuming that these bugs are fixed, this will be awesome software. Until they are, this software is of use only if you want to read a vast library. It is of little use for study or sermon preparation.

Review of PC Study Bible Version 5 New Reference Library

This software is very handy. It has a lot of resources and features that make it great for study and lesson preparation. I have an older version of this, and love it. This one was bought as a gift. The recipient is happy with it and has been using it since receiving it. Biblesoft has several levels of the software, from very basic, to a ton of resources. This being said, check them all out and pick the one that suits you best. I prefer this one, because it has all the features that most people need. Again, pick yours to fit your preferences. Enjoy!

Review of New International Dictionary of Old Testament Theology & Exegesis 5.1 for Windows (CD-ROM)

The NIDOTTE BOOK set is wonderful! Compact, infinitely user-friendly, accessible in every way, and head-and-shoulders above every other Hebrew/Theological dictionary for the Hebrew Bible for beginning and intermediate students. However, this particular SOFTWARE has some built in, severely limiting "gotcha's" that will throw average users off and even make it unusable. Zondervan offers an all-important "patch" on their web site, but it involves a 6-7 step do-it-yourself method in which you have to "open the hood" of Windows more than average users will feel comfortable doing. And even then, for this user, it still didn't work. By "didn't work", I mean that the all important "search" function simply doesn't work! It produces endless loops of error messages. The result is...a clunker...and for something that is billed as "version 5.1", it is a very surprising clunker. My advice is to stick to the multi-volume book set until these people figure out how to build software that doesn't come with built-in bugs!

Review of Art Explosion Religious Clip Art

Image quality and variety was medium.While there are some excellant images, I had to search for them through multiple categories to find them.Many, many of the images were childlike, almost cartoonish, and I'd be embarassed to use them in a religious group's newsletter (my purpose).In addition, each image seems to have a vertical black line built into it at the left side, which forces me to edit the image and overlay part of it with a white stripe.One should not have to jump through these hoops!I also could not save an image to disk; I had to select it, copy it to the clipboard, and paste into another document.

Granted, some of the images are inspirational, and there are many of a wide range of subject matter (e.g., Jesus's miricles).However, each time I load this cd to look for an image, I sigh a sigh of frustration, and wish I had something better to work from.

Review of Oxford Bible Commentary

This disk uses the Logos (version 2.1) reader for religious texts. I run it on Windows 98 SE running as a Qemu image under Linux. It is the only Windows software I continue to use. Logos supported a wide variety of religious texts, before it was replaced by the Libronix system (which still can access the older Logos format). Logos claims it runs on Windows 98 through XP (it was published well before Vista came out). Its roots go much further back, however. You can see it in the program's refusal to recognize "c:\program files" ("c:\progra~1" anyone?). As a result, the interface is somewhat dated. On the other hand, the powerful search features are easier to find than on the replacement Libronix system), and the program runs much, MUCH faster.

The book itself impresses. Not only does it cover Old and New Testaments, but also the Apocrypha, and early Christian writings like the Didache, the letters of Ignatious and Clement, and the Shepherd of Hermas. Toss in introductions to the New Testament Apocrypha, and you have a commentary of broad reach.

Long introductions are accompanied by long commentaries on the texts in question. The authors are not literalists. You see that in the standard separation of creation accounts in Genesis 1 and 2, the comparison of Genesis to the accounts of other cultures, and even more interesting, to other creation accounts scattered throughout the Old Testament.

I'm not familiar with the book version. The computerized version is basically text only, with the exception of maps. These are a decent subset of the well done maps from the Oxford Bible Atlas. These are presented in their colorful, and pretty accurate glory. The disk also supplies the NRSV Bible translation.

Not necessary if other Logos packages (Silver and Gold) purchased (which has this contained within). Worth the price just for the Hebrew-English, English-Hebrew, Greek-English, English-Greek interlinears; Andersen-Forbes Phrase Marker Analysis (MT), Clausal Outlines (NT), etc. The latter two especially useful for syntactical searches impossible for morphologically based programs.

Review of World Book Encyclopedia 2006

The entire World Book Encyclopedia on a disc plus many extras such as movies, audio recordings, helpful wizards, and more that aren't even in the print version. Plus you don't need a huge strong book shelf to hold the thing.

I got the deluxe version which includes an extra CD of additional data which has to be inserted every time you want to use it. With the first installation disc you can copy all of its data onto your computer and not have to insert that disc every time.

Sure, you can get most of this information off the internet if you want to spend the time, but this is very handy. And for the price you just about can't beat it for a complete encyclopedia. About the only thing better is the Encyclopaedia Britannica on a DVD, which is more extensive and for somewhat older students and is more expensive.

I'm just starting to learn Torah trope. I tried the free trial version and liked it. Allows learning of multiple tropes, different Hebrew pronounciations and various voices. The trope training parallels my class. Like being able to print a specific alyiah both as written in Torah and with vowels. So I ordered the program and know I'll use it a lot.

One shortcoming is not being able to export to a mp3/wav file. Will allow downloading of up to three reading in iTunes.

Review of Clickart Christian Publishing Suite III (CD-ROM)

This is a great clip art program, and you get the extra calendar software and printing software too.I use the clip art to illustrate bible stories.They have great pictures of all the major stories in the bible which can be printed out onto card stock and used for felt board stories.The pictures are bright and colorful and the kids adore them.There are also plenty of traditional pictures which are great for adults and older teens.Most of the stories have black and white pictues too, which can be copied for the kids to color before or after the lesson.I love having the coloring pages match the art work used for the felt board, it seems very professional, but is as easy as hitting the print button.

Review of Left Behind: iLumina Edition

I love this, not only are the 1st ten books on here,(available in Palm and Microsoft reader format), but almost everything you wanted to know about end times prophecy is included along with beautiful pictures of the Holy Land and bios of all your favorite Left Behind characters. Also there are little unknown bits of triva as to the beginings of this bestselling series.......if your a fan this is a must have!

I have PC Study Bible Version 5.0C new reference libary. Version 5 has bugs. Will not copy chapters of the Bible. In Version 2 you could copy with no problem.

Do not buy until they have a Version 6.

I have had this software package for a month now.Outstanding and Excellent!It comes with a Morris Proctor training CD.The Scholar's package includes 330 resources.Logos tech support is both quick and competent.Why did I need tech support?The training CD initial window was a *.hta file type which needs to be set to a Microsoft HTML File, not a Herrera Thumbnail Archive.You probably won't have this problem.Also, the musical hymns were muted in my audio settings.YES, there are 366 hymns in this set.
INSTALLATION: No problem.First you install the libronix software, then you read (or scan) the library disks.You do not have to copy the resources to your hard drive, but this whole set only takes 2.16 GB of disk space.
EASY TO USE: The Logos application provides Passage, Word, or Topic searches.Type in your request, click go and the power of libronix technology will amaze you.The resources are returned in short order and all you have to is click the item on the list.It's as easy as clicking a link on a web page.
INCLUDES: You can have a parallel Bible defined with the versions you want.You can graphically compare different versions.The Logos Deluxe Map Set is included.The Biblical People show a graphical relationship (parents/children).
